About the race
The Joshua Tree Half Marathon starts and finishes at the RESET Hotel in Twentynine Palms, California. The course, new in 2026, is a 13.1-mile loop through the desert outside Joshua Tree. Most of it runs on dirt road and sand trail, with road at the start and again from about mile 10 to the finish.
Vacation Races starts the half at 6 PM on a Saturday in early November, so the whole race is run after dark. Every runner carries a personal light, and the organizers suggest switching off your headlamp somewhere past mile 7 to look up at the stars. Spectators gather at the finish and at a cheer zone in front of Tortoise Rock Casino, and RESET hosts night sky viewing sessions after the race.
