Tokyo Marathon
From the Shinjuku government towers through Asakusa and Ginza to Tokyo Station.
About the race
The Tokyo Marathon starts at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku and finishes near Tokyo Station, at the Wadakura Gate intersection. The course runs east through Akihabara, turns at Uenohirokoji and crosses the Kuramae Bridge, then passes Ryogoku and Tomioka Hachimangu on the far side of the Sumida River. It comes back west through Ginza, turns at Tamachi Station and finishes through Hibiya.
The race is run in early March, and the official site describes the course as one that symbolizes the past, present and future of Tokyo. Along the way it passes through Shinjuku, Chiyoda, Bunkyo, Taito, Sumida, Koto, Chuo and Minato.
The poster draws the route as a single yellow line on solid black, with no street map, and labels each of those wards in small white type. The title is set in orange with the Japanese name in kanji, above the race date and a large striped 26.2. The line fades in from the start. Each poster is designed by hand after you order, with the runner's name, bib number and finish time added.
