About the race
The 2024 UW Medicine Seattle Marathon starts beside the Space Needle on the Seattle Center campus and heads south on 5th Avenue through downtown. It then turns onto the Interstate 5 express lanes and crosses the Ship Canal Bridge into the University District, crosses the University of Washington campus, and takes the Montlake Bridge to the Washington Park Arboretum. From the University Bridge the course runs west along Northlake Way toward Gas Works Park, then north on State Route 99 past Woodland Park to a loop around Green Lake. It comes back over the Aurora Bridge and finishes at Memorial Stadium.
The race dates to November 15, 1970, when a group of University of Washington friends organized the first one. It is held on the weekend after Thanksgiving, and the course has changed many times over the years.
