About the race

The Portland Marathon is 26.2 miles across four bridges and through the Reed College campus. Runners cross the Willamette River four times, twice by the Broadway Bridge, once eastbound on the Sellwood Bridge, and finally westbound on the Burnside Bridge. The race starts and finishes at Waterfront Park, at Salmon Street and Naito Parkway, and heads south on Naito and Macadam to reach Sellwood.

The race was first run in 1972, which makes it one of the longest-running marathons in the country, and the 2027 race will be the 55th running. It is held in early October, is USATF certified and is a Boston qualifier. A half marathon and a downtown 10K run the same weekend.

The poster draws the course on a black map of Portland, with the Willamette in navy running through the middle and the route in orange across downtown, the Pearl District, the east side and Sellwood. Two white dots mark the start and finish in Waterfront Park. The race date runs down the right edge. It comes in one colorway, Orange & Black. It is designed by hand after you order, with the runner's name and finish time added under the title.
