About the race

The Marine Corps Marathon starts on Route 110 in Arlington, between the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery. Runners head through Rosslyn and cross into the District for Georgetown and Rock Creek Parkway, then the National Mall, passing the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, with a loop around Hains Point. At mile 20 the course crosses the 14th Street Bridge back into Virginia, winds through Crystal City and finishes uphill at the Marine Corps War Memorial.

The race was first run in 1976 and is managed by the U.S. Marines. It is the largest marathon in the world that offers no prize money, which earned it the nickname "The People's Marathon." The wear blue Mile at Hains Point lines the road with photos and flags for fallen service members, and runners have to beat the bridge at mile 20 to stay on course.

This poster traces the course over a street map of Arlington and Washington, with the Potomac running through the middle, from the start on Route 110 to the finish at the memorial. It comes in four palettes: Orange & Black, Gold, Dress Blues and Cream. Each one is designed by hand after you order, with the runner's name and finish time set along the bottom.
