Maine Marathon
Out from Baxter Boulevard along Back Cove, up the coast to Yarmouth and back.
About the race
The Maine Marathon starts and finishes along Baxter Boulevard on Portland's Back Cove. It is an out-and-back course that wraps around the cove and follows the Maine coast northeast to a turnaround in Yarmouth, then returns to Portland the same way. The half marathon shares the first 6.5 miles before turning back.
Runners are usually out there in early October, with rolling hills, fall foliage and views of Portland and the Atlantic. The race is run by the Maine Track Club with an all-volunteer staff, and the official site describes it as one of New England's longest-running marathons. Bands and neighbors along the route keep the crowds going. The course is USATF certified and a Boston Marathon qualifier.
This poster traces the route in orange on a dark street map of Casco Bay, with the water in deep navy, the date stacked down the left edge and the start and finish marked at Back Cove. It is a compact 5x7 print. Each poster is designed by hand after you order, with the details you choose added to it.
At 5x7 it fits on a desk or shelf, which makes it an easy small gift for a Maine Marathon finisher.
