About the race

The Madrid Marathon starts near Paseo de Recoletos and heads north past the Biblioteca Nacional de España and the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. After about 8 km it turns south toward Nuevos Ministerios and continues southwest past Plaza Mayor. It then goes north past the Royal Palace to the half-marathon mark at Parque del Oeste, drops south for a 6 km loop in Casa de Campo, and runs east, uphill, toward Atocha station. It follows the edge of Buen Retiro Park and finishes inside the park, at Paseo del Duque de Fernán Núñez.

The race was first run in 1978 and takes place in late April. The undulating route, the altitude and roughly the last 10 km uphill make fast times difficult.

The poster traces the route as a coral red line on a pale gray street map of central Madrid, with the date stacked down the left side and the race name at the bottom right in bold black type. It is a light, clean look, different from the dark posters in the shop. Each print is designed by hand after you order, with the runner's name added above the distance line, plus a finish time and bib number if you'd like them.
