About the race

The half-distance triathlon in Cambridge, Maryland, starts with a 1.2-mile swim in the Choptank River, in a fairly sheltered cove with little current. The 56-mile bike is almost entirely flat, runs as one loop from residential streets in Cambridge out through the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, and is known for wind late in the ride. The 13.1-mile run is two loops through Cambridge neighborhoods with very little shade, and transition and the finish are at Gerry Boyle Park on the river.

The race has been held since 1996, and 2026 was its 30th anniversary. It is one of the longest-running half-distance triathlons in the country, and race weekend in June is often hot, with temperatures reaching the low to mid 90s.

Our poster draws all three legs on one map of Dorchester County and Cambridge, with the swim, bike and run in a color-shifting line marked with white mile dots on a navy map. The race date runs down the right edge. It comes in two layouts. Swim, Bike & Run Inset shows the bike on the big map and the swim and run in a framed close-up, and Single Map keeps the swim, bike and run together on one map. Each is designed by hand after you order, with the athlete's name added at the bottom.
