Dublin Marathon
Fitzwilliam Square to Merrion Square by way of Phoenix Park and the southside suburbs.
About the race
The Dublin Marathon starts at Fitzwilliam Square in the city centre and finishes at Merrion Square. In recent years the course has run anticlockwise around the city, through Phoenix Park before heading out to the southside suburbs, and it is generally reasonably flat.
The race was founded in 1980 by a group led by Noel Carroll, who persuaded the Business Houses Athletic Association to take up the idea. About 2,100 people started that first race and 1,420 finished. It is held on the last Sunday of October (it was moved from the bank holiday Monday in 2016) and joined the Dublin Race Series in 2001. Registrations reached a record 22,500 for 2019.
The poster draws the course on a dark map of Dublin, with Dublin Bay in navy in the upper right and the route traced as a double line that shifts through the colors of the rainbow, with white dots at each mile. The race date runs down the right edge and the title and DUBLIN, IRELAND sit at the bottom. It comes in one colorway, Multicolor. It is designed by hand after you order, with the runner's name, bib number and finish time added.
