Drake Road Races Half Marathon
A Des Moines half through Waterbury and Beaverdale, ending on Drake Stadium's Blue Oval.
About the race
The Drake Road Races half marathon starts outside Drake Stadium at Bulldog Plaza on Forest Avenue. From the Drake campus, the course heads out on closed residential streets through the Waterbury and Beaverdale neighborhoods of Des Moines, then turns back toward the stadium. Every runner finishes on the Blue Oval inside Drake Stadium.
The road races are run each April in the lead-up to the Drake Relays, and the 2026 race was the 58th. The organizers call it the place where Iowa's running tradition began. The last stretch takes you into the stadium and onto the same blue track that hosts the Relays.
Our poster traces the 13.1-mile route on a street map of Des Moines, with the start and finish at the stadium. Multicolor sets the route on a black map, shifting from pink and violet through blue, teal and green to gold, with a white dot at every mile. Solid trades the mile markers and color changes for one bold white line on a navy map, labels the start and finish at Drake Stadium, and adds a light blue title band. Each poster is designed by hand after you order, with the runner's name, finish time and race date added.
