About the race

The Comrades Marathon is a road ultramarathon between Pietermaritzburg and Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. The 2025 race was a down run: it started at Pietermaritzburg City Hall, about 655 metres above sea level, and ran 89.98 kilometres (about 55.9 miles) to a new street finish outside People's Park in Durban. Landmarks on the way include Polly Shortts, Umlaas Road, Cato Ridge, Drummond (the halfway point), Inchanga and Fields Hill.

Vic Clapham, a First World War veteran, started the race on 24 May 1921 to honour fallen soldiers. The direction alternates every year between the up run and the down run, and runners have 12 hours to finish. The course is known for its Big Five hills: Cowies Hill, Fields Hill, Botha's Hill, Inchanga and Polly Shortts.

The poster traces the 2025 down run as a gold line on a black map, from Pietermaritzburg inland at top left to the Indian Ocean at the right, with the race medallion at top left and the date set vertically at the top right. Each poster is designed by hand after you order, with the runner's name, bib number and finish time added.
