About the race

The California International Marathon starts near Folsom Dam and finishes at the State Capitol in Sacramento. It is a point-to-point, net downhill course. The early miles run through Folsom on streets such as Oak Avenue and American River Canyon Drive, then the course follows Fair Oaks Boulevard for most of the middle of the race, passing Greenback Lane, Madison Avenue, Sunrise Boulevard and Watt Avenue. In central Sacramento it turns onto Howe Avenue, J Street and L Street and finishes at 8th and L, beside the Capitol.

The race was first run in 1983 and is held in December, organized by the Sacramento Running Association. It was started to give runners a chance to qualify for the Olympic Marathon Trials, and the downhill profile is a large part of why runners choose it.

The poster traces the full course as a single line on a dark street map, from the start near Folsom Lake at the top right down to downtown Sacramento at the bottom left, with the American River in blue. It comes in one colorway, Orange, with a solid orange route. Each is designed by hand after you order, with the runner's name and finish time added at the bottom left, plus a bib number if you'd like one.

It makes a good keepsake for a first marathon or a new personal best.
