About the race

The BMW Berlin Marathon starts and finishes near the Brandenburg Gate. After leaving the Gate the course passes through Charlottenburg and around the Tiergarten, runs along Moabit and Mitte and heads south into Friedrichshain. It then winds west between Kreuzberg and Neukölln, through Schöneberg, Friedenau and Zehlendorf, before turning back toward the city center and returning through the Gate. It is known as a flat and fast course.

Horst Milde, a baker and running enthusiast, founded the race in 1974. Before reunification it was limited to West Berlin, and on September 30, 1990, runners passed through the Brandenburg Gate for the first time, so the course has covered both halves of the city since. It is run on the last weekend of September, and the race has produced several men's and women's marathon world records.

The poster draws the course as a blue line on a black street map of Berlin, with the Brandenburg Gate in blue in the lower right corner, the date stacked down the left and the start and finish marked near the Gate. It is a landscape 18x24. Each poster is designed by hand after you order, with the runner's name, finish time and bib number added at the bottom left.
